Who's On Watch??
Nehemiah’s concern for his brethren. We should be more involved in our communities. Sometimes the Lord removes us from a situation to equip us to go back and assist those in need. When one suffers, all suffer. (Neh 1: 1-4b)
A faithful servant is a praying intercessor. We are to keep our brothers and sisters lifted up in prayer without excluding ourselves. We must repent first of all, stop being selfish and only concerned with me & mine. We are to study God’s word and be obedient in order to receive the blessings He has in store for us. Knowing that it is because of His Grace and Mercy that we exist. Nehemiah prayed and confessed his sins and the sins of his fathers. He knew God’s word enough to remind Him of what He said. (Neh 1: 4c-11)
Nehemiah was faithful at his job. He didn’t murmur or complain about the situation he was dealing with. He was still faithful and respectful. Because of that the Lord moved in his favor. He not only was approved for a leave, but also was given protection and materials. (Neh 2: 1-8)
Overcoming Opposition. The wicked of the city questioned Nehemiah’s return. He didn’t tell anyone of his plans. Nehemiah worked and watched when everyone was sleep. There will be opposition from the enemy. The enemy wants to keep the people in darkness and in that slave mentality to benefit them. That’s why there are some who are complacent in communities that are slowly deteriorating. Nevertheless, there are some who just need direction. Nehemiah encouraged the leaders of the city to rebuild the wall. We are not only to go back to encourage our people, but to educate them. Not hoarding the wisdom that the Lord has given us to share with others. Anyone can preach what you need to do, but teaching you what to do will last. (Neh 2: 9-20)
